Australia has a soap opera ... about librarians.
No, really, a soap opera about librarians. (The ABC site for the show makes me want to kill small puppies. It's Flash-laden to a fault, and it will Not. Shut. UP. On the other hand, it has clips from the show, so there you go. You wuz warned.) (Priests wear tan in Australia? Really?) And the keyword list about the show at IMDB is ... interesting, let's say. (I keep thinking, "It's a library. Why would anyone need to be repressed or closeted?" I suspect that Australia is quite a different place than here, to put it mildly.)
I mean ... don't get me wrong, I think my profession is wonderful and more interesting than the rest of the world thinks it is. Not that I haven't worked in places with their share of soap opera happenings, but what place does not have them? Usually not all at once, of course, but still. On the whole, really not all that soapy. And, to top it off, the show appears to be about children's librarians. The least soapy segment of the profession, in part because parents really don't like DRAMA from the people dealing with their children. And yet, there it is.
Further investigation would appear to be required.

(Well, that's debatable - I'm not a great fan of the programme - but... I have to say that as an Australian Librarian mesel', it is actually scarily accurate in places :)
