Grim Amusements: oh, what a circus! what a show!

[Gov. Blagojevich's attorneys have withdrawn from representing him at the impeachment proceedings, claiming lack of due process, and the unfair rules and procedures.]

...I'm sorry; was anyone anywhere under the remote impression that this ... well, it would be too polite to call it a "trial" ... was supposed to be fair? Or even look fair?

This ... event, let's call it, is all about getting Blagojevich out of the way. The state simply can't function with him in office any more. Unfortunately for him and for us, we don't have a recall option -- which would take too long in any event -- and he won't resign (and in a weird way, I can't say as I blame him; after all, he hasn't yet been convicted of anything). Thus, we're left with this. And this will be the kangarooniest of kangaroo courts. Nothing about it is likely to be fair, or to be well regarded by history in the future. (It is, perhaps, worth noting that very few impeachments of sitting executives in this country have been well-regarded by history. This is perhaps one of the few not to be driven by partisan politics, but that doesn't mean that it isn't as biased and unfair in its own way as, for example, the impeachments of Johnson or Clinton.)

To be sure, there's supposed to be a real judge presiding over the Event, and that person may demand something in the way of actual due process, assuming that the rules allow for it. However, given that the evidence and potential witnesses against Gov. Greathair have all been effectively sequestered by the federal government for their show trial (and leave me not get started on how weak their case must have been to have required moving things up purely because they didn't want to have to go after a sitting senator for corruption), I'm not sure how any real due process can be found...
Comic Related - Race and Gender in Comics
Many of you may know me or have seen me active in the forums. For those who don't, let me introduce myself. My name is Sean Collins and I am an artist/writer as well as the owner of Wild Wolf Entertainment LLC. I have also been a comic collector and fan for as long as I can remember. I became an active comic creator about seven years ago.

What many of you may not know is I am a proud Native American, which brings me to the what I plan to do in this column. As a Native American, I have a natural interest in how all minorities are handled in comics and related media. Here, I will be taking a look at how different races and genders have been handled throughout the history of comics....

I have to admit, I'm looking forward to seeing how that column turns out, especially since "One diverse comic book nation" seems to have ceased again.

And along those lines: "...I think a lot of the issue isn't racism as it's classically known and discussed, but just one of lazy thinking. Why can't the next semi-recurring character to be introduced be a minority?...

5 Absurd Superhero Origins: Actually, the "What would have really happened" bits are the best parts.

Keanu Reeves as Spike Siegel in "Cowboy BeBop": ... Yes. Well. quite. Mind, Spike has a very buttoned-down affect, so there's a level where this kinda sorta almost works. Kinda. Sorta. Almost. I wonder if they'll go for one of the continuity episodes, or write something that would be a sort of stand-alone episode.

RIP, GYWO. (Though, given that the war is still on, one suspects that there'd be a place for it for some time to come. The rhetorical flourishes that will be trotted out to explain why things aren't ending now-ish, or as now-ish as possible, will be legion, and mighty to see!)
Powerpuff Girls 10th Anniversary

Huh. Who knew they'd been around that long?

And there's even a new episode tonight.

I have to admit, I'm kind of impressed that four of the seven people interviewed cited my particular favorite episode as their favorite episode. It's that whole sweet, innocent little thing screaming, "I! Am! Hard! CORE!" that gets you.
